Through the whirlwinds of a pandemic, Brie & Matt had been waiting for this moment for a long time. The day finally came and even with a short 3-month time frame to plan they came together to make this day possible for their Intimate Fall Chicago Wedding.
Halloween Proposal + Alpaca Costumes
After meeting back in 2013, Brie and Matt have been inseparable ever since. They initially met back when they became friends while working at the same job and a few months later they started dating! Now if you’re looking for an interesting proposal story… look no further. In the midst of the pandemic, Matt knew this was the time to propose. The real question begged to where since so many places were shut down.
Matt needed an excuse to get out of the house and eventually he figured out the perfect solution. It was Halloween of 2020 and it just so happened to be Brie’s favorite holiday along with a full moon and blue moon. Matt decorated the house in elaborate Halloween decor and on Halloween night lured Brie to her surprise proposal. They put on matching alpaca costumes and walked to Lake Michigan near Grant Park here in Chicago. Matt then proposed as the moon rose and of course… Brie said yes. Now if you’re looking for true love, it’s definitely there if you’re wearing matching alpaca costumes… just sayin!
Intimate Fall Chicago Wedding
For their wedding, Brie and Matt wanted somewhere unique and intimate to be able to enjoy all of their time with their guests for their intimate wedding. They really wanted their wedding decor to be inspired by the fall season since it’s both of their favorite time of the year. They really wanted to highlight dark jewel tones with pops of white which really emphasized those spooky yet elegant vibes. Having a ton of candles at the dinner table was important too, to add a dark & romantic feel. When taking all of that into consideration, Big Delicious Planet was the perfect Chicago wedding venue for their wedding.
Big Delicious Planet Ceremony
Big Delicious Planet is, of course, one of my favorite venues here in Chicago. Not only for their great service and beautiful decor but also for their food! BDP has amazing farm-to-table catering and everything you eat there looks and tastes so fresh. It’s no wonder why this is such a fan favorite! It’s a hidden gem amongst the hustle and bustle of the city and is filled with so much greenery, life and is the perfect intimate setting.
With such a beautiful venue space, everything else seemingly fell into place. The ceremony was absolutely gorgeous and filled with so much laughter & fun. Since it was an intimate wedding, there weren’t that many people there which led to a much more casual, intimate, and fun dynamic. Don’t be fooled though… there were still tears flowing and laughing up until the point our cheeks hurt. It was a little bit of everything but it was still just as magical. Brie and Matt said their own self-written personal “what I love about you’s” before their traditional vows. They even did a wine box ceremony! Everything came together to have one of the best ceremonies I have ever seen.
Candle Lit Dinner & Twinkling Lights
After the ceremony, we walked around the nearby area to do a few portraits. As I said, BDP has some amazing vine walls and greenery so we really took advantage of the gorgeous space when it came to their solo portraits. We then headed back to BDP to finish up their day with their reception. We enjoyed some good ol’ cake cutting and – can we just take a second for this cake??? BDP went all out and shoutout to Facci Designs for making the best cake topper EVER. Seriously keep scrolling to check it out. Brie + Matt shared their first dance as newlyweds underneath the twinkling lights and candle-lit pergola surrounded by their close family. It was the perfect ending to an absolutely perfect day.
Intimate Wedding Advice:
For any of you couples who are currently planning your intimate wedding, here is some amazing advice from Brie + Matt:
“Planning goes more smoothly if you have a clear vision of what your theme is. Create a Pinterest board that you can send out to vendors. Also, create a wedding-specific email address. It’ll make vendor communications a lot easier”
