Summer Garden Wedding in Chicago

Elopements, Love, Weddings

September 22, 2021

What a beautiful way to end the month of August than getting to capture Bella and Kyle during their summer garden wedding here in Downtown Chicago!

The Love Story

Their love story began high school after Bella & Kyle were introduced by their best friend, Linus, who also happens to be their officiant! While on a trip to Amsterdam + Copenhagen, Kyle proposed to Bella and well… the rest was history! They decided to have an intimate wedding since both of them are relatively private people. Having an intimate ceremony with the people they love felt just right for them.

Getting Ready & Wedding Portraits

The day started off with both Bella and Kyle getting ready at the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel. Bella was wearing this square neck, slightly puff-sleeved, tea-length design by Johanna Ortiz. Bella’s parents are from Colombia, so it was very important to her to have a dress made by a Colombian designer! With that being said, she looked absolutely beautiful and Kyle looked dapper in his custom-designed suite from Daniel George. For their portraits, we ran all around Millennium Park in Downtown Chicago. We made sure to snag some shots with the beautiful Chicago skyline and even made sure to head on over to Cindy’s Rooftop at the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel to catch those amazing city views.

Summer Garden Wedding

After their first look, it was time to head on over to their ceremony at the Cancer Survivor’s Garden. This contemporary garden is the perfect combination of serenity mixed with gorgeous city vibes. Considered a hidden treasure in the heart of the city, this garden was designed to be a celebration of life and to give hope. Within this garden there is an elegant and open pavilion which is where Bella and Kyle decided to have their ceremony. Keep in mind, if you want to get married here you’ll need to get a permit from the city!

After seeing images of other small weddings at the gardens, Bella and Kyle knew it was the right spot for them. Bella’s sister and Kyle’s aunt are cancer survivors and really wanted to be able to honor them on their special day. Along with the fact that it was within walking distance from their hotel, it is also the perfect location if you’re wanting something secluded and peaceful in the heart of a city.

Reception at Cindy’s Rooftop

Next, it was time for the reception which some people may argue is the best part of your wedding day! They decided to have their ceremony at Cindy’s Rooftop which is actually at the top level of the CAA hotel! This rooftop dining experience will win anyone over with its breathtaking views of Millenium Park over an open-air terrace. I am honestly blown away by how beautiful this space was. 10/10 would DEFINITELY recommend.

The whole day was an absolute dream. Bella and Kyle were able to celebrate with their close family and friends and have the ceremony/reception that they visioned. When asked, Bella and Kyle said that if they could go back the would change almost nothing from their special day. The only thing would have to maybe check the calendar for other events happening on the day of our ceremony. The Air and Water show rehearsals were taking place over their ceremony location which made it hard to hear the officiant at times, though thankfully it was brief!

Couples Advice for Elopements/Small Weddings

Bella & Kyle:Don’t hesitate to do it! We were both able to fully enjoy the day without feeling the stress or pressure of a large event”

Kind Words

“Choosing Melissa as our photographer was one of the best decisions we made on our wedding day! She was so incredibly flexible and accommodating, and managed to stick it out with us through the 85+ degree heat. Melissa also put us at ease immediately and effortlessly led us through the day to make sure we got all of the best shots! She is a true talent and we feel so lucky that we got to work with her!”
