After a journey with their long-distance relationship, Scott & Katie have come together to say “I do” at their Summer Wisconsin Wedding at Camp Wandawega.
The Love Story
Their love story begins back in 2011 and junior year of high school to be exact. Katie and Scott shared a chemistry class together and since then, have known they were a match made in heaven. After graduating high school, both went off to separate schools but still maintained a long-distance relationship for 5 years! Since then, both have graduated college and moved to be in the same beautiful city… CHICAGO! They have lived in Chicago for 4 years and love the city almost as much as each other… LOL.
Now… the proposal you may ask? After months of Katie thinking it was “happening”, unfortunately, it didn’t. That’s because Scott had his own plan in mind. *wink.* It wasn’t until one day in August that Katie began to get signals that a proposal was in the near future. Love notes across the house, surprise dinner plans, and a spontaneous walk in Lincoln Park in the rain led to the most beautiful proposal. Right underneath the Honeycomb in Lincoln Park was a picnic set for two. Scott pulled out the ring and Katie said “So are you going to do it” and Scott responded “Do I do it now?”. Scott and Katie walked into Lincoln Park as boyfriend/girlfriend and left fiancés.
Summer Wisconsin Wedding
Scott and Katie had their wedding at Camp Wandawega. A beautiful lake resort where you get to experience an enhanced level of camping, celebration, and fun. One of the main reasons that Katie and Scott chose to get married at this venue was how perfectly curated the space is. It allows for people to feel like kids again and regain that relaxing and laid-back feel that camp has. It led to both sides of the family to merge, get to know each other and become one for 3 whole days. Katie and Scott really wanted to celebrate with the people that they love and cared for the most. It turned out to be one of the most amazing weekends ever!
So of course, we started off the day with some getting-ready shots of Scott and Katie. After a bit, it was time for the first look which Katie had with both her father and Scott. I always love it when couples opt-in to do a first look with their partner or guardian. It really is such an intimate moment and is a great way to ease some nerves on a very exciting (but sometimes overwhelming) day! After surprising Scott on the docks of the Lake Wandawega, we moved into taking some bridal portraits. Now let me tell you something… the weather, the sun, basically everything was so breathtakingly beautiful, my jaw was to the floor a good chunk of the time. Katie was wearing this dress that draped over her so perfectly and these photos have to be some of my favorite I have done to date.
Summer Wisconsin Wedding Ceremony & Reception
Once the bridal portraits were done, we made our way to the main ceremony area for the lovebirds to say their “I do’s”. The ceremony was of course, just as romantic as you can imagine and was just filled with so much love and happiness. They went for a boho theme and incorporated a lot of warm tones and florals. In wanting something semi-unique for their wedding, Katie actually did a lot of the florals, runners, and decor herself! After the ceremony, it was then time for cocktail hour and the reception. Oh and let me say this… this wedding party KNOWS how to get down and groove. Katie did an iconic outfit change from her beautiful dress into a white jumpsuit and I can just say one word… wow. After speeches, first dances and a little bit of drinks (okay… maybe a lot a bit), the dance floor opened and it was a free-for-all. This bunch knew how to have a good time and of course, I am here for every second of it.
As I walk away from this day, I can’t help but know that I am so grateful to say that this is my job. Meeting so many amazing couples and getting to document their special days bring me such joy and I wouldn’t change it for anything. Congratulations to K+S and thank you for giving me the honor to capture such special moments for you. Cheers!
Advice from the Couple
“Don’t let people put doubts in your head if you want to do something different. Your gut is drawing you to it because you have a vision. During all of this I realized that people who go out of the “norm” are the ones who have the best ideas and create the most amazing memories! I don’t think there was one bad word to be had about our wedding from others! Do it because it will make you two happy!”
