With the height of the pandemic, many couples opted for smaller and more intimate weddings. I think over time couples have realized that a bigger wedding isn’t always for everyone. In fact, these restrictions have allowed for couples to value what’s most important to them and focus more on the meaning behind getting married. For Shirley and Ben, they couldn’t wait to get married. With so many restrictions in place at the time, they decided that the best choice for them would to have a small winter elopement in Downtown Chicago. To make the ceremony special and just for them and well… it’s safe to say we did just that.
The Love Story
While away at college, one of the most common ways to meet people is through dating apps! Hey – no shame in your game! One of the most popular and most used is of course, Tinder. 5 years ago when Shirley and Ben were attending Notre Dame, they met on this app. They have been together since and have loved every moment of it. So much so, that one day Ben took Shirley over to New Buffalo, MI to propose. He ended up proposing on the beach where they ended the day watching the sunset as newly engaged. How cute, right??
Winter Elopement in Downtown Chicago
Ah, the beautiful city hall. Completely underrated and despite what many opinions may say, can actually be amazing for photos. You just need to be a little bit creative and utilize the space properly! After meeting Shirley and Ben at City Hall in Downtown Chicago, we headed in for their ceremony. Now if you have any questions in regards to how to get married in Chicago city hall, I highly recommend reading this article here! After meeting in front of a court-appointed judge, exchanging vows and their first kiss, Shirley and Ben were officially newlyweds! The moment we have all been waiting for and I can tell you it never gets old.
Chicago Wedding Portraits
After the ceremony was done, we headed outside to wander the streets of Chicago for their portraits! Can we also take a moment to appreciate Shirley walking around the city in heels WITH snow on the ground? This was on another level and I commend her big time on this – trust me, there have been a lot of slips and falls in my days. We wandered the city making sure to stop at some of my favorite photo locations like the La Salle St. Bridge, The Wrigley Building, and any location that sparked our interest. Despite the frigid winter temps, we still were able to have so much fun exploring and enjoying the beautiful Chicago views. Just make sure you are bundled up and ready for a bit of walking if you’re planning on having a winter wedding. You’re gonna want to trust me on this!
Congratulations to Shirley and Ben on their gorgeous winter elopement at city hall. It was everything I could have ever imagined and I am so honored to have been able to capture such magic!
