Chicago Opera House Wedding at Thalia Hall

Love, Weddings

May 3, 2023

This Chicago Opera House Wedding at Thalia Hall with Mo & Connor is one that I will never forget. Think of a moody Fall night with hints of green, gold, and black tones throughout. Throughout the wedding planning process, it was evident how excited Mo & Connor were to get married. Then, the day finally arrived.

Their Love Story

Mo and Connor met after their Freshman year of college back in 2011. Mo needed a ride to a summer music festival and Connor was her ride. As told by Mo & Connor, it was then that they “accidentally” started a long-distance relationship. Mo went back to Boston University where she was attending. While Connor stayed behind and went back to school at Southern Illinois University. They spent every break from school either coming home or traveling to see each other. They did this for 3 years. This included Mo’s semester in Israel and then moving back to Chicago once graduation was over.

It wasn’t until after plenty of time has passed dealing with long-distance and living in each other’s childhood homes, that they finally moved in together. Their first place where they lived was Chicago and lived there for years until it was time to change things up. They packed up all their belongings and moved to Seattle, WA where they currently live.

What Was The Proposal Like?

After over 10 years together, Mo and Connor took a trip to Spain. It was on this trip that a surprise proposal ensued. Okay, but not so surprised since 6 days into their trip, while Mo was looking for ibuprofen she stumbled upon “the ring”. However, as they were walking through Granada, Spain, Connor dropped to one knee and popped the question. While Mo knew this was happening, they still proceeded to celebrate over a bottle of champagne and dinner.

Mo and Connor got married at Thalia Hall, here in Chicago. Right in the Pilsen neighborhood, Thalia Hall is one of Chicago’s infamous historic landmarks. In its original construction back in 1892, Thalia Hall was an opera house. Since then, it has turned into a central hub for the community. With a beautiful re-established beer-inspired restaurant (Dusek’s), a Punch-focused cocktail bar (Punch House), and a public hall that is versatile for any sort of event, including weddings!

Thalia Hall was modeled at the Prague Opera House. It emulates opulence and elegance and is truly a one-of-a-kind Chicago wedding venue. It still holds its original charm, character, and history from its original construction but with a modern twist.

It was an absolutely beautiful day for a Chicago wedding. Mo got ready at her brother’s home while Connor got ready at Palmer House Hilton. Shortly after getting ready, we headed to Humboldt Park for Mo & Connor’s first look. When asked, this was one of the most anticipated moments. Not only because they would be seeing each other for the first time, but they also had a surprise guest… their pup, Archie. It was there that we took a few portraits, popped a bottle of celebratory champagne, and made our way to our second portrait location, The Garfield Park Conservatory. Surrounding you are plant species and flora from all over. The Garfield Park Conservatory is definitely a standout location and one that was really important for Mo & Connor. Luckily we had a trolley to make sure that we were traveling in-between locations in style.

Ceremony & Reception at Thalia Hall

It wasn’t long until we made our way to Thalia Hall to get these two married. In a beautiful ceremony on the stage at Thalia Hall, Mo, and Connor exchanged their vows. It was a beautiful experience to witness and one that definitely felt very grand inside the grand hall space at Thalia Hall.

After a brief cocktail hour and a moment alone in the opera box after the ceremony, Mo and Connor made their debut as husband and wife. The ceremony space had been rearranged for their reception and it was just breathtaking. Lights hanging from the ceiling and where moments ago they were exchanging vows were now the center stage for the Bluewater Kings Band. A night spent with good company eating some phenomenal food, dancing, and celebrating Mo & Connor’s love. It couldn’t have been more perfect.
