Downtown Chicago Summer Elopement

Elopements

October 4, 2021

It’s not everyday that you get to capture such sweet and intimate moments between two people… oh wait, yes it is. Carmen & Adam inquired with me to cover their quick and small elopement here in Downtown Chicago and of course, I said yes.

Thinking about eloping?

Years ago, when people first heard of the word “elopement” they immediately thought of some rushed decision. Maybe even a Vegas wedding with Elvis as your officiant (although, nothing wrong with a good time). Nowadays, elopements are SO much more than that… and I mean so much more. Elopements are all about being intentional and capturing the intimate moments between you and your SO. They’re the perfect opportunity for you and your boo to skip the hustle and bustle of a traditional wedding, and just focus on you!

Elopements can be as simple as getting married in your backyard but it doesn’t have to be. If you’re looking to hike to the top of a mountain to get insane sunset photos, do it! Maybe you’re looking to jump into a river in your wedding dress? Do that too! Elopements give you the freedom to do WHATEVER YOU WANT, without the constraints that some traditional weddings may give you. Don’t get me wrong, traditional weddings are amazing, but elopements will always have a special place in my heart.

Downtown Chicago Summer Elopement

We started off the day in beautiful Downtown Chicago on a gorgeous sunny summer day. I met up with Carmen & Adam over by the Lasalle Bridge alongside the Chicago river. We took photos walking alongside the river and really embracing the amazing weather we had. The sun wrapped around them so perfectly and you could tell just how happy they were to be getting married. Seriously these love stories get me every.single.time. We basically spent the time together running around Downtown Chicago and finding places that fit the relaxed, laid back vibe they were going for. Again, another reason why I love elopements is because you really can take your time with your wedding portraits and have a little bit more wiggle room to explore!

After a bit, it was then time to make our way over to Riverside Plaza for their ceremony. From the moment these two locked eyes, you could just see how happy they were to say “I do”. After they exchanged vows and rings, the two were finally married and dare I say it… lived happily ever after. Okay, so maybe not that corny of an ending but Carmen and Adam finally tied the knot and it was the perfect ending to their wedding day.

Kind Words

Carmen & Adam: “From the very start, Melissa was incredible to work with. We had a very spontaneous elopement and reached out to her only a day before, and we are forever thankful she said yes. Melissa was really genuine, down-to-earth, professional and felt like a friend we’ve known for ages. We felt comfortable instantly and were able to both be in our own world and stay connected to Melissa. She has a great eye and instinct, and we had a lot of fun exploring the city with her and getting photographed from the riverside to the middle of the street(!). When we received our photos, we were absolutely thrilled. We both look amazing, and Melissa beautifully captured our moments, emotions and personalities that we relive them every time we look at them. Honestly, everything went so beautifully on our elopement day and having Melissa right there with us to immortalize our moments was just perfect”

I absolutely loved being there for Carmen and Adam on their special day. I feel honored to have been able to work with such an amazing couple. Not only that but be able to capture such intimate moments between the two of them. Congratulations C+A!!!!
